Overview :

Following the approval of Cabinet, the Bahrain’s Sustainable Energy Unit (SEU) was established in November 2014 by way of a formal agreement between the Minister of Energy and the UNDP.

The key objectives of the unit is to develop a cohesive and sustainable energy policy and to promote Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Conservation in the country. The unit will also work towards bridging the legal, institutional, and capacity gaps in order for the Bahrain energy sector to meet the future challenges.

SEU is the entity mandated to lead and promote energy efficiency practices, transfer and diffuse renewable energy technologies and draft related policies and regulatory frameworks in close coordination with stakeholders and partners in the Kingdom of Bahrain. SEU is currently developing the National Energy Efficiency Energy Action Plan (NEEAP) and the National Renewable Energy Action Plan (NREAP) in accordance with the guidelines of the League of Arab States, with articulated targets that will eventually be the base for developing the National Energy Policy. Among other policy documents SEU is also planning to develop feed-in tariff (FiT) policy to accelerate investments in renewable energy technologies.

SEU invites companies or institutions that have extensive and proven experience in wind energy mapping to develop a comprehensive wind map for the Kingdom of Bahrain which can serve as a reference in determining the potential of wind power generation in Bahrain and justify the inclusion of wind energy in the FiT regime, as well as provide a guide to potential siting of wind turbines.
