Overview :

BACKGROUND

Under the Environmentally Sustainable Production Practices in Cocoa Landscapes Phase II project (ESP Phase II), Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) and UNDP Ghana will engage the services of a national consultant with the requisite experience to develop a Community Resource Management Area (CREMA) in the Atobease Landscape, Wassa East District, where the project is working to promote environmentally sustainable cocoa production systems based on a landscape approach. Activities under ESP II are designed to help farmers in the project intervention districts including the Wassa East to adopt environmentally sustainable and climate change resilient cocoa production practices and to conserve ecosystems and natural resources in cocoa landscapes.

 

ESP II implementation in the CREMA areas is based on an integrated landscape management approach that supports food and cash crop production, ecosystem management and rural livelihoods across entire landscapes.

SCOPE OF WORK

  • The ESP Phase II Project is seeking a Consultant to lead on the development of a CREMA at its Atobease Landscape comprising of some 60 farming communities in the Wassa East district in the Western Region of Ghana. Specifically, the Consultant will provide technical assistance to ESP II to develop a CREMA in the proposed landscape in collaboration with the landscape communities as well as the ESP II Project Management Unit, and other project partners/stakeholders.

EDUCATION

  • Masters’ degree in natural resources management environmental sciences, social sciences with a specialization in development or other social studies relevant to this assignment.

EXPERIENCE

  • Strong understanding of sustainable production systems, the cocoa sector in Ghana and community forestry with at least 7 years work experience
  • Experience with participatory methodologies and in community mobilization and extension
  • Experience working on similar assignments to develop a successful CREMA to the devolution stage
  • Good professional knowledge of the national socio-economic development context
  • Experience working with a variety of stakeholders in Ghana, including government agencies, traditional authorities, NGOs, Civil Society, communities including farmers etc.
  • Experience or presence in the focal district or region is a plus.
  • Demonstrated communication and writing skills are assets
