Overview :

Malalume Secondary School, Bulilima

  • Solar powered electrical system for the school and teachers houses: The envisaged work should replace the current diesel-powered generator that is providing electricity to the secondary school computer lab. Besides the computer lab, the solar power installation should be able to provide lighting to seven teachers houses, dormitories for boarding pupils, the school administration block and classrooms
  • Solar powered ground water provision system: The proposed work should incorporate the drilling of 1 high yielding borehole and setup of water provision system, which should be powered by solar energy. The solar powered water provision system and water infrastructure should be kept as simple as possible – it should therefore not include batteries and A/C.

Zinaphi Irrigation Scheme, Lupane

  • The proposed work shall include 2 high yielding boreholes powered by solar energy. The borehole shall feed water into storage tanks, storing a total of 20.000 L, from where it is to be conveyed into the irrigation scheme.
  • The proposed work shall also include 2 livestock watering facilities, consisting of 2 troughs on each side of the irrigation scheme inclusive of piping (Approximate distance from borehole of 2 x 250m).

Mbvumbi Gardens, Gokwe South

  • The proposed system will consist of 2 high yielding boreholes with submersible pumps powered by solar energy. The borehole depth is expected to be between 40-50 m. Each borehole shall feed water into a storage tank(s), storing a total of 10000 L. The 2 boreholes should be located in two locations of the Mbvumbi gardens (29 ha) to facilitate drinking water supply for the community (of 150 households) surrounding the gardens. One of the boreholes is expected to also support a processing facility for washing and solar drying leafy greens
