Project Name: Support to the 2015-2018 Liberia Electoral Cycle Duration: 8 months Starting date: Immediately Contract type: Individual Contractor (National) Languages: English UNDP Liberia is committed to long term, sustainable support to democratic development in Liberia through the electoral cycle, including support to key democratic institutions and processes, these include the National Elections Commission (NEC) in their responsibilities to plan for, organize and carry out elections based on the national electoral cycle. The UNDP election project overall goal is to enhance democracy in Liberia through improved electoral institutions and processes. The project’s key object is to continue strengthening the capacity of NEC to undertake institutional and legislative reforms and execute the necessary measures to ensure that NEC, as the electoral management body has the ability to preside over and deliver free, fair and credible democratic elections for Liberia. After the 2017 general elections national and international observer groups issued recommendations aimed at building a resilient and effective electoral framework. Key recommendations call for electoral reform to institute electoral best practices in Liberia. A technical working group of NEC with financial and technical support from UNDP Elections project identified the reform agenda to advance in 2019 and has drawn up proposed legal amendments that should be submitted to the National Legislature for consideration and possible passage into laws.
