RFP - Gender Inclusion Technical Assistance – Hiring Strategies Pilot

Project Description

The purpose of this assignment is to support UNCDF CleanStart’s Renewable Energy Challenge Fund portfolio partners to implement gender inclusion strategies within their hiring practices. The aim is to source a technical assistance provider who will support 2 companies to pilot gender inclusion hiring strategies, to be monitored over a set period (10-12 month engagement total). Insights from this pilot can be shared with other portfolio partners during thinkshops and through case studies.

UNCDF CleanStart is providing de-risking capital to a portfolio of 14+ energy SMEs in Uganda to provide access to clean energy solutions to low-income households, small businesses, and institutions. The portfolio partners receive grants and tailored technical assistance throughout the duration of their partnerships with UNCDF CleanStart. Included in partner performance is measurement of their sales targets (including disaggregation of customers by gender), in addition to creating new jobs for women and youth. Each portfolio partner has their own targets as set out in their performance-based agreements.

UNCDF CleanStart provides opportunities for companies to improve gender inclusion across their businesses, through knowledge sharing events, monitoring current practices, and making recommendations for technical assistance. Hiring practices is one specific area where a number of partners have expressed needing tailored, in-house support to review their current hiring practices and improve gender inclusion with them. This also requires monitoring of gender inclusion strategies and companies’ abilities to implement these strategies over a period of time. The end goal is to demonstrate to energy companies the feasibility of gender inclusion practices in their daily operations, and the impact this can have on their bottom line and company performance, specifically with regards to hiring qualified candidates; improving new sales streams; retention; and so forth.

Submission deadline: 14 June 2019 EST New York time.
