Overview :

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), as the development arm of the United Nations, works in some 170 countries and territories, helping to empower lives and build resilient nations. In Sri Lanka, UNDP has been working as a key development partner of choice since 1967, to achieve sustainable human development in economic, social and environmental fronts. Working closely with the Government at national, regional and local levels, and civil society and the private sector, UNDP aims at eradicating extreme poverty, and reducing inequalities and exclusion to protect both people and the planet.

The UNDP’s focus on sustainable human development that places people at the centre of development cannot be achieved without the robust engagement of civil society and its organizations. The UNDP may extend the reach and effectiveness of its programs by leveraging the capacity and networks of CSOs/NGOs through collaborative relationships. Service provided by such organizations are contracted to provide UNDP’s technical support to project implementation. CSOs/NGOs are a crucial resource, constituency and partner for UNDP in advancing sustainable human development goals and principles. The UNDP has made significant progress in both broadening and deepening its interaction with CSOs/NGOs, particularly a valued niche in creating the space with governments for CSO perspectives to be heard and incorporated into policy and programmes. A roster-based system to streamline the recruitment of such entities would increase operational efficiency, reduce transactional costs and improve resource mobilization to expedite project implementation and delivery.

To this effect, the UNDP in Sri Lanka would like to invite the organizations registered under Voluntary Social Service Organizations Act in Sri Lanka and specialized in the following areas to submit their information for pre-qualification and possible inclusion in the Country Office CSO/NGO Roster:

  • Capacity development of Community Based Organizations
