| Overview : Timely dissemination of weather and climate information is critical for planning and decision-making processes to improve livelihood of small holder farmers in the project area. From the implementation of the Climate Information Early and Warning System (CIEWS) project, it was determined that one of the quick and cost-effective way to disseminate meteorological products and services to the rural communities is through bulk mobile SMS. This mode of dissemination enables the smallholder farmers have the needed weather and climate information as soon as it is generated. Moreover, the proposed system will allow ZMD to get feedback from the users. The system will enable users to register in order to receive the information. It will also provide information in a local language with localised content. The system will send the weather and climate information to all the users at the same time unlike using the mobile phones which cannot send bulk messages. |
