Introduction

The Republic of Mauritius constitutes the islands of Mauritius and Rodrigues, 560 kilometers east of Mauritius, the 2 outer islands of Agaléga, 1065 km to the north, and the archipelago of Cargados Carajos Shoals (Saint Brandon), 430 km to the northeast. Even though the pressure of anthropogenic activities, natural calamities inclusive of climate change have increased exponentially, the island remains as one of the jewels in the world with respects to biodiversity and natural resources and is recognized as a Global Biodiversity Hotspot. The state harbors many flora and fauna species (terrestrial and marine) which are unique to the country or the region

The objective of the project is to develop a costed Roadmap for the establishment of an online National Invasive Alien Species Information System (NIASIS) to enhance effective IAS prevention, control, monitoring, and management, in partnership with key stakeholders. With this objective, UNDP Mauritius CO request you to submit your proposal for Development of a costed Roadmap for the establishment of an online National Invasive Alien Species (IAS) Information System. The NIASIS will provide timely access to information including text, visual, audio, video, georeferenced data/maps which aims to increase the capability, knowledge, and resilience required for decision-making and ensure that information is up to date and provides input for evidence-based adaptive management. Information management will be in accordance with agreed protocols and will raise awareness on IAS as a cross-sectoral issue, to build support for IAS-related work, and encourage citizen science in IAS-related activities. It will also provide systems for sharing lessons learned from project implementation, nationally and globally, to inform adaptive management and further work on IAS.
