Introduction :

The energy transition towards sustainable and clean energy sources is a crucial step for developing countries to achieve their climate and development goals. UNDP efforts to support countries in this transition, there is a need to provide expertise and guidance on capacity building and decision-making processes. What practical actions could countries take now to ensure that the energy transition both accelerates and proceeds in an orderly fashion? How do certain energy transition policy objectives create trade-offs, and what is the right balance for a particular country? What are the implications for financing and investment requirements - how can insights be actioned?

UNDP is seeking to recruit a firm that will work with UNDP’s Sustainable Energy Hub to conduct analytics, training and production of insights geared toward identifying practical actions, policy objectives, financing requirements, and investment opportunities to enable developing countries, supported by UNDP, to accelerate and facilitate an orderly just energy transition. The firm will focus on conducting research that will allow us to align with national governments through tailored workshops, the development of an energy transition policy pathways tool (a dynamic, micro-/macroeconomic model based tool) and a guidance document on how to go about defining a national energy transitions pathway, including criteria to help with identifying appropriate recommendations to chart a path forward for an individual country within the context of its NDC. These tools and guidance should provide practical advisory support to governments to better understand, and take actions on, the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead of their country driven decisions on effecting an energy transition. Importantly, the products must support the enhanced understanding of the explicit and implicit trade-offs of various policy actions, at a systems level, and enable the formulation of a bespoke policy response plan to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all.
