Introduction
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Programme offers global citizens an opportunity to volunteer across three pillars of the United Nations (UN) system: development, peace and security and human rights. UNV works with partners to integrate qualified, highly motivated and well supported UN Volunteers into development programming and promote the value and global recognition of volunteerism. UNV is administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and reports to the UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS Executive Board.
UNV has over 12,840 UN Volunteers (2023 data) deployed in the field with UN system partner entities in 2023. UN volunteer assignments are normally funded by the UN system entities, Agencies, Funds and Programmes where the volunteers are deployed. In some cases, such volunteer assignments may be funded from donor countries under the UNV flagship programme named as Full-Funding. To manage its operations and organizational costs, UNV being an affiliated programme of UNDP, has been mandated to develop its costing model under the framework prescribed by UNDP Executive Board decisions and applicable policies, rules and regulations. The primary objective of this project is to gain a detailed understanding of UNV’s cost structures and drivers, enabling more effective financial management and strategic planning.
