Introduction :
Request for Proposal to Conduct Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and develop Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP)
(National Consulting Firm)

Background

The Ministry of Planning and Development (MoPD), in collaboration with UNDP and its development partners, is implementing a project entitled “Preventing Forest Loss, Promoting Restoration, and Integrating Sustainability into Ethiopia’s Coffee Value Chains and Food Systems.” This project is part of the Global Environment Facility’s (GEF) Food Systems, Land Use, and Restoration (FOLUR) Impact Program, which aims to transform food systems to be more efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable.

The project’s objective is to facilitate the transition toward deforestation-free coffee value chains and food systems in four regions: Oromia, Sidama, South Ethiopia, and Southwest Ethiopia. These regions cover some of the most biodiverse and forested areas in the country, where coffee is grown under diverse agroforestry systems. Employing an Integrated Landscape Management (ILM) approach, it seeks to inform forest and landscape restoration plans in degraded areas. The initiative promotes an inclusive value chain strategy within the coffee sector, supporting a transition toward deforestation-free coffee production.

Objective

The general objective of the consultancy is to produce Environmental and social impact assessment report of the FOLUR project operation that ensures the compliance with national environmental legal frameworks, as well as with the UNDP’s Social and Environmental Standards (SES) in the context of the operation.
