Introduction

Scope of Work

The technical firm is responsible for preparing two key documents on Responsible AI as part of the 'UN Principles for Responsible Digital Payments.' The first document, a Technical Note, will introduce Responsible AI as the tenth principle, exploring AI's use cases across various digital financial services (DFS) payment streams, such as G2P, P2G, and P2P. It will analyze AI's potential to enhance digital payment infrastructure through automation and efficiency, providing examples and calculations to demonstrate significant gains in productivity, cost reduction, and operational efficiency. The note will also address potential risks, including security vulnerabilities and bias, with estimated projections of possible negative impacts from irresponsible AI deployment. Additionally, it will feature case studies from regions like Rwanda, India, and Brazil, as well as organizations like WFP and UNHCR, highlighting proactive measures and AI-driven financial inclusion. Tailored recommendations will be provided for governments, the private sector, development partners, and academia, supported by quantitative data and projections. The note will also discuss how responsible AI can contribute to advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in areas such as agriculture, health, and climate resilience. The second document will be an 18-page supporting note, analyzing AI's impact on the existing nine principles, featuring examples, and offering specific recommendations for incorporating AI into each principle. This note will draw upon guidance from organizations like OECD and UNESCO and will be used to update the principles for a 2025 re-launch.
