Introduction

The Project aims to improve the three existing Kariz and construct water reservoirs located in Hassankhail village in Paktia Province, enabling rainwater harvesting and flood water storage during rainfall and spring. The purpose of these water storage facilities will be to support farmers in enhancing agricultural land production in Zarmat district. Additionally, they aim to further sustain the increase the ground water table.

In addition, to improve sustainable greenery in the area, hundreds of trees will be planted which directly impacts the climate resilience and boosts agricultural production by allowing farmers to grow crops during dry seasons. Over 1000 labours including youth will be employed through cash- for- work (CfW) scheme to support the rehabilitation of the water reservoirs, canal and Kariz rehabilitation and plantation of trees. Community members, farmers, and local authorities will be engaged to manage the water reservoirs and share the stored water during dry seasons, creating strong community social cohesion in the five (5) communities in Hasankhail village, promoting climate resilience and sustainable development in the region. This water distribution will ensure that all households around the reservoir benefit and no one is left behind.

Project Activities will include the following:

A.         Construction of gravity water reservoir: During the flood period, the water reservoir will be filled with flood water and will later be used by the community in agricultural production as well as to provide water for the tree plantation and livestock.

B.         Improving the Existing Kariz: The existing Kariz will be improved through cash for work. The current Kariz is adversely effected by climate in more area it damaged by cleaning and rehabilitating this will help irrigate more farmland in the surrounding areas.

C.         Job opportunity through cash for work: over 1000 laborers will benefit from employment
