Introduction

UNDP ITM has the objective of sourcing Solar Systems for a UNDP facility in Lesotho and a UNDP facility in Benin. The Invitation to bid is designed with two lots (one per each office) and will be awarded separately, so suppliers can quote for one complete lot or two complete lots. The main goal of the solar PV system is to provide affordable green energy solutions for two UNDP smart facilities as well as smart integrated services like security and adaptability. ITM requires high quality for the system as it will also serve as a showcase on a national and international scale.

The UNDP Lesotho CO, in cooperation with the UNDP Information & Technology Management (ITM) Green Energy Team, has taken initial steps toward expanding the solar PV installation on their premises. This endeavor will comprise of an additional 80kWp solar PV with system, to be installed in addition to the existing 35.5kWp.

The load has been estimated from PCMM sensors, local energy resources, and data provided by the CO colleagues in the site assessment. Based on the projection of the load consumption, the new total solar PV system will be able to cover approximately 30.1% of the electricity consumption.

Switching to renewable energy implies strong environmental incentives. Going solar will save approximately 13 tons of CO2 emissions yearly, effectively reducing Lesotho CO’s carbon footprint and environmental burden. This will institute the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals while being an opportunity to promote green energy solutions and inspire local economies to adopt similar solutions.

A solar installation in Lesotho CO will enhance business continuity and work environment, as well as reduce climate impact. All while promoting sustainable development in the region.

The UNDP Benin CO, in cooperation with the UNDP Information & Technology Management (ITM) Green Energy Team, has taken initial steps toward implementing a solar PV installation on their premises. This endeavor will comprise an expansion of 40 kWp solar PV to the existing 42.5 kWp solar PV system commissioned in the first semester of 2024.

The load has been estimated with data from the current solar system monitoring portal, electricity bills, PCMMs and data provided by the UNDP Benin CO colleagues in the site assessment. Based on the projection of the load consumption, the new solar PV system with the existing system will be able to cover approximately 41.8% of the electricity consumption.

Switching to renewable energy implies strong environmental incentives. Going solar will save approximately 30.2 tons of CO2 emissions yearly, effectively reducing Benin CO’s carbon footprint and environmental burden. This will institute the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals while being an opportunity to promote green energy solutions and inspire local economies to adopt similar solutions.
