Introduction
Support to develop the First Biennial Transparency Report of Sri Lanka for the UNFCCC (BTR1)
Sri Lanka ratified the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in November 1993, making it one of the first 50 countries to do so, and also ratified the Kyoto Protocol in September 2002, and the Paris Agreement (PA) in September 2016. As a Party to the above treaties, Sri Lanka is obligated to implement the decisions of the Conference of the Parties (COPs) regarding the implementation of policies and measures to adapt to, and mitigate climate change, thereby contributing to the attainment of the objectives of the above treaties.
Under the Enhanced Transparency Framework, Parties to the Paris Agreement are required to submit their Biennial Transparency Reports (BTR) every two years, with the first submission due by 31 December 2024.
Objective;
The objective of this assignment is to provide technical assistance to the Government of Sri Lanka to prepare the First Biennial Transparency Report (BTR1). This will entail collecting data, coordinating to develop the respective chapters of the BTR1 and also the Adaptation Communication for Sri Lanka.
