Description of the Assignment:
The assignment involves the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) organization, which promotes volunteerism to support global peace and development. The Volunteer Advisory Services Section (VASS) is leading a series of research studies to demonstrate how volunteering contributes to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The upcoming study will focus on the role of volunteers in humanitarian protection and assistance in contexts of human mobility, such as migration and refugee situations.
Key objectives include:
- Understanding volunteer contributions to integration and protection of migrants and refugees.
- Analyzing the impact of volunteers on social cohesion and resilience.
- Exploring how volunteering can address gender-specific challenges in these contexts.
- Generating evidence-based policy recommendations for integrating volunteerism into development strategies.
The consultant will undertake desk research, case studies, and stakeholder interviews to compile a comprehensive report. Deliverables include an inception report, literature review, draft and final study reports, all within a timeline of approximately two months. The work aims to enhance understanding of volunteerism’s role in supporting the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly regarding migration and social inclusion.
Period of assignment/services 14 October - 20 December 2024
