Introduction
Country: Mozambique
Description of the Assignment:
National Consultant to Conduct Stakeholder’s Initiatives Mapping for the Resilient Infrastructure Portfolio in Mozambique.
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has significantly contributed to the development of the Mozambican government through the construction and rehabilitation of various public infrastructures under different thematic areas, covering several provinces. These efforts have been concentrated in rural and urban areas, targeting schools, health centers, markets, public buildings, water systems, and residential structures. However, these infrastructures frequently encounter significant challenges due to inadequate maintenance post-construction. Without regular upkeep, these vital infrastructures are susceptible to damage from severe weather events, conflict, or degradation over time. This issue severely hampers communities' access to essential services such as healthcare and education and compromises their safety and living conditions. Moreover, the recurrent need for repairs drains resources and efforts, hindering the expansion of crucial services to broader areas.
Women and girls are often disproportionately affected by the lack of maintained infrastructures. They may face increased barriers to accessing healthcare, education, and economic opportunities, which are vital for their empowerment and well-being. Thus, there is a need to ensure that infrastructure projects are designed and maintained in ways that promote gender equality, considering aspects like the safety of women in public spaces, the accessibility of healthcare services for maternal and reproductive health, and the availability of educational facilities which are inclusive for girls. Therefore, a gender perspective in the maintenance and development of infrastructures can lead to more resilient and inclusive communities, ultimately enhancing the overall impact of UNDP's efforts in Mozambique.
Period of assignment/services: The consultancy is expected to last for 2 months.
