Introduction

 Support to Update Sri Lanka’s Nationally Determined Contributions 3.0 (NDC 3.0)

To remain aligned with a pathway in which the rise in global average temperatures stays below 1.5°C, countries are expected to submit the third generation of their NDCs to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat by 10 February 2025 (Please refer link for NDC 3.0: https://unfccc.int/ndc-3.0). The Government of Sri Lanka too is committed to enhancing their climate actions. The updating of Sri Lanka’s NDCs will focus on identifying opportunities to increase ambition in prioritized mitigation and adaptation sectors while integrating gender and social inclusion, just transition related aspects.  The NDC 3.0 will serve as a roadmap as Sri Lanka aims to achieve net zero status by 2050 and build resilience to climate risks.

Noting the significance of updating Sri Lanka’s climate commitments, with resources from the Climate Promise 2025 programme, the UN Country Team and other Development Partners in Sri Lanka have committed their support towards the NDC 3.0 process. The NDC 3.0 process includes the stock take and updating of the NDCs. Given the support available from multiple parties to NDC 3.0, it will require a coordinated and harmonized approach to update NDC 3.0. The UNDP Country Office in Sri Lanka will support the selected service provider through the UNDP appointed Project associate to coordinate the Development partner support to NDC 3.0 to enable smooth coordination between other UN agencies and Development Partners for this assignment
.

 Objective;

The broader objective of this assignment seeks to support the Government of Sri Lanka to take stock of their NDCs and update them while ensuring to integrate gender and social inclusion aspects for prioritized sectors .
