Introduction

Project Description:

Zambia, blessed with immense natural beauty, rich mineral resources, and significant economic potential, has stood out in Africa for its stability and peaceful political transitions. Over the years, the country has fostered peace within its borders and with its neighbors, an achievement less common across the continent. However, challenges remain in translating this potential into sustained socio-economic growth. Zambia has faced hurdles in effectively promoting itself globally, a gap that has limited foreign investment and job creation. Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated existing difficulties, contributing to high debt levels and a reduced capacity for developmental programs, which has further strained the well-being of many Zambians.

Aligned with Zambia’s Vision 2030, the Eighth National Development Plan (8NDP) (2022–2026) outlines strategic pathways for economic transformation, job creation, human and social development, environmental sustainability, and good governance. These interventions aim to diversify the economy, create employment—particularly for youth—and address poverty and inequality, all while working towards transforming Zambia into a middle-income country by 2030.

As Zambia marks its 60th anniversary of independence in October 2024, the national conversation centers on inclusive economic growth, youth empowerment, and branding Zambia as a destination open for business. A unified national rebranding strategy has become essential to highlight Zambia’s appeal as an investment destination, promote local innovation, and elevate Zambia’s image on the international stage. A strong branding and marketing campaign that clearly articulates Zambia's opportunities can stimulate investment, showcase Zambia’s unique attributes, and inspire a renewed commitment to national development.

Building on existing branding efforts, the Brand Zambia Initiative (BZI) will bring together government, private sector, local communities, and global partners to craft a compelling, forward-looking narrative. This collaborative effort will spotlight Zambia’s strengths across sectors, unify messaging under a cohesive national brand, and foster cross-sector partnerships to drive inclusive development.

The Zambia Content Creators Bootcamp, as part of BZI, offers a platform to engage 30 young Zambian content creators, equipping them with skills in multimedia storytelling, digital marketing, and ethical content creation. These creators will use digital storytelling to promote Zambia’s tourism, culture, and economic opportunities, helping to shape Zambia’s image both locally and internationally. Through immersive training and hands-on content creation experiences, the bootcamp will empower participants to become ambassadors who highlight Zambia’s rich heritage, diversity, and potential for investment, setting the foundation for a new era of digital brand advocates for Zambia on the global stage.
