The overall objective of the present consultancy is to review and upgrade the national guidelines on healthcare waste management in Nigeria towards in ensuring that healthcare wastes are handled, managed, disposed of and regulated in an environmentally safe, economically viable and socially sound manner.
In view of the above, UNDP through the Sahel Resilience Project aims to support the Federal Government of Nigeria in reviewing and updating the existing national healthcare waste management guidelines already developed by the Federal Ministry of Environment in collaboration with Federal Ministry of Health and other stakeholders, and also the healthcare guidelines developed internally by NESREA. The two government institutions (FMENV & NESREA) will together review and update the two existing guidelines with the support of a qualified consultant to produce up-to-date national guidelines on healthcare waste management in Nigeria.
