Description of the Assignment: 


The consultant is expected to support the NDC 3.0 development process in Eswatini will mainly entail the development of a technical report to guide the integration of cross cutting issues in the NDC 3.0 revision process. The consultant will work closely with relevant stakeholders, national and international consultants to assess the integration of these sectors within the NDC, including identifying gaps, challenges, and opportunities for enhancing their contributions to climate mitigation and adaptation goals. Additionally, the consultant will contribute to ensuring that the updated NDC is coherent with Eswatini’s broader climate strategies, including the LT-LEDS, NAP and others.


The ideal candidate should have but not limited to the below required qualifications:

  • This consultant should have at least 3 years prior experience in practical work in climate change research, policy development, adaptation and mitigation, and cross-sectorial development assessments.
  • Advanced degree in developmental studies, gender, social science and other related qualifications.
  • Expertise in climate change adaptation and mitigation and knowledge/experience in cross cutting themes including gender, youth, DRR and finance with relation to climate change.
  • Strong understanding of the Paris Agreement and UNFCCC guidelines.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and participatory approaches.
  • Excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of international climate policy, especially on the UNFCCC decisions framework on NDCs and LT-LEDs.
  • Focuses on results and responds positively to critical feedback and welcomes constructive feedback.
  • Exercise the highest level of responsibility and be able to handle confidential and politically sensitive issues in a responsible and mature manner. 

Period of assignment/services: 30 Days within 2 Months
