Introduction
Country: Mauritius.
Description of the Assignment: The main project objective is to safeguard globally significant biodiversity in vulnerable ecosystems, through the prevention, control, and management of Invasive Alien Species (IAS) in the Republic of Mauritius through strengthening the systemic, institutional and operational capacity. This project is being implemented by the National Parks and Conservation Service operating under the aegis of the Ministry of Agro-Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy and Fisheries. The Division of Veterinary Services (DVS) of the Government of Mauritius, is planning to set up a Beagle Dog Biosecurity Program for Border Surveillance in Mauritius in collaboration with relevant institutions. Key components for proper implementation of this surveillance system includes recruiting and training beagles and handlers, setting up infrastructure, and conducting ongoing program management.
Period of assignment/services: June 2025 - February 2026
