UNDP with support from the Government of Japan is collaborating with the Government of Nepal to implement ‘Livelihoods Improvement and Disaster Resilience Enhancement in the Areas Affected by the Jajarkot Earthquake’. The overarching goal of this project is to support effective earthquake recovery and long-term resilience by enhancing government capacity for service delivery, support reconstruction, and promote revitalized livelihoods. The project will be implemented in 5 local governments, namely Nalgad Municipality, Bheri Municipality and Barekot Rural Municipality of Jajarkot District, and Aathbiskot Municipality and Sanibheri Rural Municipality of Rukum West District. The key government stakeholders include National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration (MoFAGA), Karnali Province Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives (MoLMAC), Office of Chief Minister and Council of Ministers (OCMCM), District Administration Offices (DAOs) of Jajarkot and Rukum West districts, and local governments. Acknowledging the needs of continuing psychosocial support programmes in the earthquake affected areas, this project aims to build on the past interventions and fill the critical gaps in psychosocial support. It also aims to strengthen the project municipalities for providing such services in future, if required. UNDP seeks technical support from a national institutional service provider to provide psychosocial support to affected population including women, children and people with disabilities.
In this regard, Livelihoods Improvement and Disaster Resilience Enhancement in the Areas Affected by the Jajarkot Earthquake Project has launched a bid document for providing psychosocial support to vulnerable population including children, women and persons with disabilities in the areas affected by the Jajarkot earthquake.
