Introduction
Scope of the Tender:
1. Literature Review and Contextual Analysis
- Conduct a comprehensive review of existing data pertaining to unexploded ordnance (UXO) contamination, clearance records, and environmental assessments.
- Identify knowledge gaps and establish baseline conditions.
2. Field Assessments
- Conduct field visits to designated priority areas in collaboration with national authorities (e.g., Guadalcanal, Malaita, Western Province, Russell Islands, Shortlands).
- Precisely document observable environmental degradation (e.g., soil degradation, marine contamination, disrupted habitats).
- Collect environmental samples (soil, water, sediment) for subsequent laboratory analysis.
3. Stakeholder Consultations
- Conduct interviews with community members, environmental officers, and unexploded ordnance (UXO) practitioners.
- Incorporate traditional ecological knowledge into the assessment where appropriate.
4. Risk and Impact Analysis
- Assess contamination pathways and environmental vulnerabilities.
- Evaluate potential risks linked to UXO removal or natural disturbances (e.g., flooding, landslides).
5. Reporting and Recommendations
- Prepare a comprehensive report that details the findings and proposed mitigation or monitoring actions.
- Develop a map indicating zones affected by environmentally sensitive unexploded ordnance (uxo).
- Present the findings to stakeholders during a workshop or validation meeting.
