Introduction
The growing spread of violent conflicts and violent extremism, and the evidence of spillover effect from the Sahel region towards the Gulf of Guinea States (Benin, Togo, Ghana, and Cote d’Ivoire), and the dynamics of internal conflicts continue to pose significant risk to the progress of development, exacerbating the vulnerabilities of women and youth in at-risk communities. In the Northern part of Ghana, Sawla Tuna Kalba Municipality, bordering Cote d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso, and Tempane Municipality, bordering Togo are exposed to these threats of violent extremism and conflicts due to proximity to border towns, and Socioeconomic vulnerabilities. In line with this context, UNDP under the Prevention Facility project organized capacity – building training for local government authorities, and CSOs in Sawla – Tuna – Kalba and Tempane districts, to enhance knowledge in developing strategic development plans that aligns with the medium term Development plans and reflects the needs of communities to effectively improve service delivery and strengthen grass – roots level resilience against threats of conflicts, organised crime, and violent extremism in border and cross – border areas. UNDP in consultation with the districts further revealed the need for procurement of motorbikes to support effective administrative planning and ensure availability of accurate EWER data for service delivery.
