Introduction
Scope of Work
The project plans construction activities in four separate locations – Taro, Tulagi, Lata and Kira Kira. The approximate area size of each location requiring assessment is 1,258m2 (34x37m). The consultancy firm shall undertake the following tasks for each prospective site:
· Desk Study and Historical Research:
- Review historical aerial imagery, military records, land use history, and any available UXO incident reports or surveys pertaining to the sites or surrounding areas.
- Consult with relevant national and local authorities, military archives, and UXO specialists.
· Site Reconnaissance (UXO Specific): Conduct a visual inspection of each site for any surface indications of UXO, discarded military items, or signs of past military activities.
· Risk Assessment: Based on the desk study and reconnaissance, conduct a comprehensive UXO risk assessment for each site, following the “as low as reasonably practicable” (ALARP) approach to mitigate UXO risks.
· Recommendations for Further Investigation/Mitigation:
- If a significant UXO risk is identified, recommend appropriate further actions, which may include:
o Non-intrusive geophysical survey (e.g., electromagnetic, magnetometry).
o Intrusive investigation (e.g., targeted intrusive sampling, full-scale clearance).
o Development of a detailed UXO management plan for construction activities.
o Procedures for unexpected UXO discovery during construction.
