Description of the Assignment:  

Key duties and responsibilities

 

1.     Provide extension support services for ongoing field activities:

·       Conduct a rapid participatory assessment of local agricultural practices and climate
vulnerabilities.

·       Provide technical guidance on crop and livestock production and facilitate the adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices and technologies for increased productivity and enhanced resilience. 

·       Provide technical inputs and hands-on support on proper cultivation techniques, animal husbandry, poultry, aquaculture, disease management, pest control, veterinary science, etc.

·       Enhance productivity and ensure the production of high-quality agricultural products

 

2.     Provide capacity building training in agriculture and livestock management:

·       Develop training content for community-level ToT training covering conservation farming, agro-forestry, water harvesting and soil management, crop and livestock diversification, post-harvest handling and value addition.

·       Provide orientation, extension services and training support to the beneficiaries of project target villages on adopting/improving climate-smart agriculture and livestock management practices.

·       Assist in plantation, nursery management, seedling production and rice plantation, chemical pesticide-free farming practices emphasizing the use of organic fertilizers, water conservation techniques, and integrated pest management to promote environment-friendly nurseries.

·       Provide training on livestock management focusing on disease prevention, basic veterinary care, and proper nutrition for livestock, feed management and breeding and cattle reproduction.

·       Coordinate with relevant local partners, project team and government stakeholders, as required.

 

3.     Management support and monitoring community conservation agreements (CCA):

·       Support the management and monitoring of the implementation of community conservation agreement (CCA) activities being implemented in five villages (2 each in Xepone and Nong districts and one in Xonabouly district) of Savannakhet Province.

·       Ensure the activities are completed in a timely, consultative and efficient manner.

·       Provide supervision and follow-up refresher technical training for CCA villages in areas such as livestock, vegetable farming, rice plantation, broom glass plantation, and infrastructure activities (village office and latrine).

·       Take responsibility for mainstreaming sustainable development principles in all activities.

 

4.     Data analysis and reporting:

·       Collect and analyze data related to agricultural and livestock production, market trends, and value chain performance.

·       Organize extension and farming awareness raising programmes in the targeted project areas

·       Prepare a compendium of success stories as part of a knowledge product showcasing the project’s impacts in changing people’s lives from vulnerability to resilience.

 

Period of assignment/services: 220 working days.
