Introduction

The Ministry of Energy (MoE) of Tanzania, in partnership with UNDP and supported by the EU and the Embassy of Ireland, is implementing the country’s first Energy Efficiency (EE) Action Plan (2024–2034). The plan aims to provide affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all, aligning with national policy, SDG 7, and the Paris Agreement.

The Action Plan outlines seven priority actions to promote energy efficiency, including performance standards, testing infrastructure, capacity building, and public awareness. These efforts aim to reduce energy demand and costs, boost industrial competitiveness, and support climate goals.

Since 2022, foundational steps such as training programs, lab development, audits, and awareness campaigns have shown promising results and generated success stories.

To document and promote these achievements, MoE and UNDP will publish a dual-language (Kiswahili and English) coffee table book featuring human-centered stories, strong visuals, and practical examples of energy efficiency in action. The book will:

  • Showcase economic, social, and environmental benefits
  • Provide evidence for policymakers and partners
  • Inspire replication by individuals and businesses
  • Highlight opportunities for youth and women
  • Acknowledge the EU and Irish support

This publication will serve as both a knowledge resource and advocacy tool, accessible and engaging for a broad audience.
