Introduction
The objective of this assignment is to engage a service provider to manage and administer the PesaTech Cohort 3 Innovation Fund of USD 300,000 in a transparent, compliant, and efficient manner while providing tailored technical assistance to participating fintech start-ups. The program is designed to strengthen business capacity, enhance investor readiness, and facilitate meaningful partnerships between fintechs and key stakeholders such as financial service providers, regulators, investors, and other market actors.
The specific objectives are two-fold:
1. Technical Assistance (TA): Deliver targeted capacity-building activities that strengthen investment readiness, foster partnerships, and promote collaboration within the fintech ecosystem. This will include tailored support to participating start-ups, networking events, and knowledge-sharing activities that increase ecosystem visibility.
2. Innovation Fund Administration (USD 300,000): Manage the fund in a transparent and compliant manner, consisting of:
o Seed Funding (USD 100,000): Disbursed as small grants to ten selected fintechs in PesaTech Cohort 3, to support their business growth and investor readiness.
o Partnership Funding (USD 200,000): Allocated to four fintechs (from Cohorts 1, 2, or 3) based on partnership assessments. This funding is intended to catalyze collaborations with banks or mobile network operators (MNOs) and leverage these partnerships to unlock future private investment. The allocation amounts will vary depending on the start-up’s needs, the assessment results, and the expected impact. Final decisions on allocation will be jointly made by the service provider and UNCDF.
