Introduction
Scope of the Tender
The Czech-UNDP Partnership for Sustainable Development Goals Project aims to respond to the development challenges by transferring innovative solutions for SDGs to partner countries.
The objective of the Czech Challenge fund: Innovations for SDGs is to facilitate the transfer of know-how and innovative solutions that would address development challenges in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Georgia, Kingdom of Cambodia, Republic of Moldova, Republic of Zambia and contribute to the achievement of SDGs.
The eligible applicants include the private sector, NGOs, universities, state institutions or research centres. The applicants are required to engage local partners to assure viability in local conditions and to promote the sustainability and scalability of the solution. Partnership with the local partner needs to be presented in the form of letter of cooperation, memorandum of understanding or similar document signed by both parties.

Target Countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Georgia, Kingdom of Cambodia, Republic of Moldova, Republic of Zambia
Development Challenges per country:
Bosnia and Herzegovina
- Circular economy with focus on promoting circular business models and sustainable value chains; strengthening innovation and technology transfer between research institutions and industry; supporting SMEs in adopting circular practices; and fostering consumer awareness, youth engagement, and skills development for a resource-efficient economy.
- Sustainable management of natural resources with a focus on management of protected areas and Other Effective Area-based Conservation Measures, via development of sustainable tourism, with increased involvement of the private sector.
- Capacity building of the BiH institutions at all levels with focus on strengthening the innovation eco system and applied research and development capabilities. In collaboration with relevant government institutions, this activity aims to design targeted programs that support the development of innovations, technology development and the integration of research into real-world applications.
Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia
- Climate Resilience and Environmental Sustainability: with focus on e.g., access to renewable and affordable energy including solar solutions; sustainable urbanization and smart city technologies; strategic benchmarking tools for economic growth via Big Data; dynamic traffic control and intersection coordination; systems for inspection and maintenance of city infrastructure; and data crowdsourcing platforms.
- Inclusive Economic Transformation: with focus on e.g., strengthening the innovation ecosystem targeting youth (and capacity building trainings for youth); facilitating technology transfer and cooperation between universities and industry; promoting inclusive and innovative finance; expanding digital payments and financial tools; supporting SMEs; and advancing sustainable agriculture.
- Livelihood Development for Internally Displaced People: with focus on e.g., creating opportunities for income generation, resilience, and social integration of displaced communities.
- Livelihoods, Jobs, and Sustainable Value Chains: with focus on e.g., supporting SMEs, enhancing export potential, and promoting consumer protection, while piloting digital solutions such as coffee traceability systems that help smallholder farmers meet EU and global sustainability standards, improve market access, and secure environmentally sustainable livelihoods.
