Introduction
Objective
The objective of this Terms of Reference is to support the development and implementation of the UNDP NextGen Energy Champions Initiative. The initiative will empower youth through challenges, gamified skilling content, and opportunities in green jobs, entrepreneurship and policy engagement. It will act as a catalyst for creating a pipeline of viable opportunities in skills development, policy advocacy and employment access for youth in the energy transition.
The initiative will pilot in 2025, with an immediate focus on establishing the framework and infrastructure needed to engage millions of youth and catalyze systems-level impact through a just energy transition. This will be achieved by anchoring around high-leverage workstreams:
· Co-Convening: Organizing a flagship event, launching the global youth opportunity platform and generating momentum for the Energy Compact through the creation of a partner-backed youth engagement pipeline.
· Policy Engagement: Aligning with UNDP’s programs to integrate youth voices into energy policy, avoid duplication and translate youth participation into system-level results.
· Capacity Building: Delivering hybrid learning, mentorship and leadership development through the Sustainable Energy Academy and partner platforms, ensuring accessibility across geographies.
The objective is to provide support across the program, including in the development of content, facilitation of youth and partner engagement and co-convening of stakeholders to strengthen the Initiative as a scalable, partner-backed mechanism.
