Introduction

Events Management/Coordination Firm for the Inclusive Insurance Summit

The United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) makes public and private finance work for the poor in the world’s 47 least developed countries. With its capital mandate and instruments, UNCDF offers “last mile” finance models that unlock public and private resources, especially at the domestic level, to reduce poverty and support local economic development. UNCDF also adopts a gender lens approach in all of its initiatives and activities to ensure overall inclusion and participation in the digital economy.

In partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations University Institute of Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS), UNCDF has developed the Pacific Insurance and Climate Adaptation Programme, PICAP (hereinafter referred to as the Programme or PICAP), with the overall objective of: “Pacific households, communities, small businesses, organizations and Governments are financially better prepared for climate change and natural hazards.” The Programme also aims to reduce the gender equity gap and ensure vulnerable social groups are access to suitable disaster risk insurance products.

During 2021, the Programme in partnership with private sector insurers and reinsurers, other public and private sector stakeholders in Fiji developed and deployed the Pacific region’s first ever weather index based parametric microinsurance targeted at small holder farmers, fishers, market vendors and small businesses. By end of 2021, the first suite of parametric microinsurance products had covered 1388 Fijian households and during 2022 there are plans to scale the solutions to reach over 4000 households in Fiji and introduce minimum viable products under a pilot in Tonga and Vanuatu, two other vulnerable Pacific countries.

The Programme seeks the services of an Events Management/Coordination Firm to coordinate organizational aspects of the event, including but not limited to travel arrangements, logistics and procurement, catering, venue management and decoration, registration, chaperoning and so forth.

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Manager, the Events Management/Coordination Firm will support the PICAP team organize and execute the Inclusive Insurance Summit that is to take place in February 2024. The summit will be a first-of-its-kind in the Pacific and more than 100 local, regional, and international delegates are expected to attend, including public and private stakeholders from around the Pacific region.

The summit will run for over 3 days, beginning with an opening ceremony, and concluding with a closing ceremony on the second day. There will be a field visit and cultural activities on the third day. Following the opening, delegates will break out into different rooms for panel discussions and focus group activities on targeted topics.

The incumbent will report to the PICAP Programme Manager (or designate) and work closely with the wider team to ensure the summit is conducted in a timely, professional, and efficient manner.

The Consultant will ensure that the project’s tasks and activities are implemented in accordance with UNDP Rules and Country Office procedures.
