Introduction
3. Description of services:
The sub-project aims to do the following actions:
Development of concept for organization of contests among university students. The concept should include all steps for organization of contests in selected 3 youth educational institutions and universities in Kabul, selection criteria for participants, content of capacity building activities, process of pitching session, selection criteria for provision of seed funding for testing innovative and business ideas of youth. The capacity building programme should include at least 10 hours of involvement of potential trainers and cover below topics: financial aspects of business management, SWOT analysis and CANVA, legal aspects of business, marketing, prototyping, etc. Four experts should be involved for conducting incubation programme.
- Develop a design for Startup Café platform and agree with UNDP. Upon agreeing the brand book should be produced.
- Announcement of event among youth and interested parties through selected university channels, social media, traditional media and other communication means. Collecting applications among youth and students for participation in the contest. At least 150 applications should be collected for each of 3 contests.
- Attract at least 3 partners from the private sector companies for organization of contests. The partner companies should provide internship, training, prices and supports to implementation of business and innovative ideas of youth participated in contest.
- Select at least 60 applications and conduct 2 days capacity building trainings to prepare them for contest in each of 3 selected educational institutions and universities. Upon conduction of trainings experts should render support in implementation of community development solution, innovation and traditional business ideas of youth. As a results, at least 50 youth should be prepared for the pitching session within the contest.
- Conduct three Startup Cafe pitching sessions within the contest covering at least 50 young people in selected educational institutions and universities. The events are supposed to match successful community development solution and startups with the investment, internship, and seed funding opportunities. The selection process should be conducted by committee created by representatives of private sector companies, experts, academia, other related stakeholders and agreed with UNDP. The evaluation criteria should be developed, including idea, implement ability, project team, marketing, etc.
- Provide seed funding for 9 winners from three pitching sessions. The seed funding should be provided to launching/expansion of the community solution and startup projects through procurement of equipment, revolving funds, etc. UNDP will contribute to the prizes / grants and the sum should be not more than USD 6,000 per each contest, including USD 3,000 for first place, and per USD 1,500 to second and third places (The overall total amount of prizes/grants for winners of 3 contests shall not exceed USD 18,000).
- Facilitate provision of internship opportunities to at least 5 selected youth, including 1 young woman. The funding for this activity should be contribution from the private sector company.
- Document lessons learnt and recommendations on implemented activities and ways forward.
- Communicate the implementation process and results of the initiative in the local and regional mass media, including social media, TV and radio. The project and donor visibility, including support from the UNDP should be visible.
- Prepare stories of success and disseminate through communication channels. In addition, ensure photo coverage and development of one minute video from the contest process.
