Description of the Assignment:
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Bangladesh, focusing on the Sundarbans region to develop an area-based programme to better protect the biodiversity and ecosystems while supporting the climate vulnerable communities to adapt with the adverse impact of climate change and enhance their resilience. In this context, UNDP Bangladesh is seeking the services of a National Consultant (Climate Change and Biodiversity Expert) for conducting a Scoping Study on integrating Locally Led Adaptation (LLA) and Nature-based Solutions to design an area-based programme in the Sundarbans region. This study will provide a comprehensive understanding of the climate change and biodiversity issues in the Sundarbans, assess the effectiveness of current measures, and propose innovative, locally appropriate solutions. The consultant's work will contribute to the SABP's overarching goal of achieving sustainable development in the Sundarbans region, ensuring the protection of its unique ecosystem, and enhancing the resilience and well-being of its communities.
The overall objective of this assignment is to conduct a comprehensive assessment on integrating Locally Led Adaptation (LLA) and Nature-based Solutions (NbS) in an area based programme. The assessment will consider the past and existing projects and programmes in Sundarbans catchment area to identify LLA and NbS best practices and lessons learned and proposes a set of pathways to develop an integrated LLA and NbS driven area based programme for the region.
Period of assignment/services: 30 Working Days on intermittent basis and spread over 3 months
