Introduction :

UNDP Suriname is currently seeking a qualified local company to undertake Renovation Works for the Bigi Pan entrance Slipway in Nickerie. The project is part of the 2nd GCCA+ Project in Suriname, which aims to support the country in adapting to the impacts of climate change. The primary objective is to enhance water resource management and coastal ecosystem management, ultimately improving the well-being of coastal communities through gender-responsive capacity building. Specifically, the project focuses on improving national governance in Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) and Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM). The proposed renovation of the Bigi Pan entrance Slipway plays a crucial role in achieving these objectives, as it serves as the official entry point to the larger Bigi Pan MUMA area. The Slipway is utilized by the Ministry of Land Policy and Forest Management - Nature Conservation Division (NCD) for essential patrolling activities required for the effective management of the Bigi Pan MUMA. Moreover, the Slipway holds significant importance for local stakeholders such as tour operators and fishermen.
