Overview : The intercommunal conflict in Gedeo-West Guji in Ethiopia and its associated mass scale internal displaced persons (IDPs) have triggered an acute humanitarian crisis and inflicted significant damage on private and public property. It has also caused widespread destruction of vital infrastructure including health facilities, schools, roads, markets, farmland and water supply. A majority of the IDPs have lost most or all their household items, having often fled in haste with nothing more than personal possessions. The IDPs have also lost other assets (farms and livestock) as well as cash reserves and are no longer able to engage in their usual livelihood generating activities (farming and daily labour work). As an increasing number of the displaced are returning to their areas of origin, one of the biggest challenges that returning IDPs and hosting communities face is rebuilding their homes and their livelihoods. Against this background, UNDP has formulated a project, “Stabilization Recovery Support for Communities Affected by Gedeo-West Guji Displacement”, that seeks to lay the foundation for a dignified return of the displaced population and the communities of origin. The project is expected to directly benefit 5,000 households. Among some of the key activities is to train the youth on skills for housing construction through modern type of stabilized earth bricks making and laying which subsequently will generate interest among communities in using modern technologies for durable housing construction and improved quality of lives of the previously displaced population, host families and communities. UNDP Ethiopia Country Office is seeking a qualified Consultancy Firm to train local youth on earth stabilized bricks making for rural housing construction Application Instructions: Proposals should be submitted at the following address or email no later than 23 October 2019 at 05:30 PM in the Afternoon (UTC+03:00 Addis Ababa/Nairobi Time Zone).
