The Conservation and Environment Protection Authority (CEPA) in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) through the Global Environment Facility funding support has been implementing the Community based Forest and Coastal Conservation and Resource management Project, targeted at New Britain and Owen Stanley Ranges. On the 6th of July 2017, the East and West New Britain Provincial Administrations signed separate Memorandum of Agreements with CEPA to support the implementation of the Community-based Forest and Coastal Conservation Management Project. The MoAs comes with commitment for funding support from the Provincial Administrations to support the sustainability of conservation programmes beyond the term of the project. The aim of the project is to support the communities for protected area development and sustainable livelihood programs, and to support the capacity of communities for protected area management beyond the term of CbFCCRM Project.
