Overview :

UNDP Vietnam is seeking for 01 National Consultant for providing recommendations for the integration of green chemistry into Viet Nam’s National Strategy on Development of the Chemical Industry to 2035, With Vision to 2040.

Ban quản lý Dự án (PMU) và UNDP đang tìm kiếm 01 chuyên gia tư vấn trong nước đủ điều kiện thực hiện nhiệm vụ đề xuất các nội dung để lồng ghép Hóa học xanh vào trong chiến lược phát triển ngành công nghiệp hóa chất Việt Nam, giai đoạn đến 2030, tầm nhìn đến 2045

While the chemical and manufacturing sectors play a very important role in the development of the national economy and in the industrialization and modernization of Viet Nam, certain hazardous/toxic chemicals and their by-products containing such chemicals are becoming of increasing concern because of their impact on human health, the local and global environment and ecosystems.

Because of many issues left by historical circumstances, surveys in Viet Nam (1999 – 2010) indicated higher levels of chemicals of concern in soil, water, and women’s breast milk than those measured in most other countries.

This situation has been further aggravated by chemical pollution, discharges, industrial accidents, and spillages caused by the national chemicals and manufacturing industry, the cause of which predominantly stems from using old technologies, outdated production processes and/or end of pipe solutions. These challenges put a significant strain on the Government of Viet Nam and local authorities, as these impacts are further jeopardizing the health of the country’s population as well as its ecosystems.

In general, it has been proven that serious environmental incidents are often the result of ignorance in environmental risks associated with obsolete industrial processes and the consumption, release, or storage of hazardous chemicals in any stage of industrial manufacturing.

The consultancy aims to integrate criteria of GC principles into the development strategy of the chemical industry in Viet Nam for the period up to 2030, with vision to 2045. The strategy for the chemical industry will contribute to the reduction of uses and discharges of POPs/U-POPs, mercury, and GHG, as well as enhance resource planning and energy saving.
