The Spotlight Initiative is a global partnership between the United Nations and the European Union to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls and to support the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Through a comprehensive approach, the Initiative aims to support a world where all women and girls, particularly the mostvulnerable, live a life free from violence and harmful practices. In Nigeria, the programme will support interventions at federal, state and community levels across 5+1 focus states.

Since the beginning of the year, the Spotlight Initiative team has worked in close partnership with Civil Society Organizations & the Government to kick-start the implementation of programs. 52 competent CSOs have been engaged as implementing partners who have kick started year 1 activities in Adamawa, Cross River, Ebonyi, FCT, Lagos and Sokoto.

The Spotlight Programme is seeking to set up governance structures at the state level which includes having a Civil Society Reference Group made up of 3 members. The role of the group is to provide strategic guidance and supervision of programmatic interventions around sexual and gender-based violence in the 6 states.
