Advert Individual Consultant- Facilitator – BOCONGO Representation Function Workshop and Guidance Material
Overview :
  • Botswana Council of Non-Governmental Organizations (BOCONGO) is the national coordinating body for NGOs in Botswana. BOCONGO has more than 200 Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) affiliated to it, which are known as ‘members’. BOCONGO was established in 1995 to coordinate the work of NGOs in Botswana.

BOCONGO works with NGOs and other stakeholders to strengthen the NGO sector through coordinating the sector’s contributions to development in Botswana and beyond by:

- delivering capacity development;

- facilitating platforms for effective communication between members and key stakeholders;

- increasing the capacity of members to be effective advocates for policy development both individually and as a sector.

BOCONGO nominates and appoints its members to sit on different Committees, Technical Working Groups and Board Memberships for representation of Civil Society both locally and internationally.

BOCONGO seeks to ensure that representative members perform their representative roles and functions in an effective, accountable and transparent manner. Representative members must fulfil and honor their responsibilities towards the committees and should be accountable for defaulting in their responsibilities or misrepresenting BOCONGO’s position.

BOCONGO is therefore seeking the services of a consultant to facilitate an in-person workshop in Gaborone, Botswana. The purpose of the workshop is for members to discuss and agree how civil society should be represented through BOCONGO, how BOCONGO’s advocacy positions should be developed and conveyed, what is expected from those appointed in representative roles, feedback and reporting of meeting proceedings. The workshop will also cover all emerging issues and challenges of BOCONGO’s current committee representation model and proposed solutions from participants. From the discussions at the workshop, the consultant will develop terms of reference for Representation of BOCONGO for development and endorsement at the workshop and later produce supporting forms and guidance on representation of BOCONGO by its members.  The workshop will be attended by 30 BOCONGO members who are representatives of different local and international committees and coordinators of BOCONGO Thematic groups.

UNDP Botswana is supporting the COVID-19 response in Botswana including ensuring that the national response is inclusive and participatory and adopts the ‘leave no one behind’ approach that underpins the Sustainable Development Goals. To this end, UNDP is supporting BOCONGO’s efforts to ensure that CSO representation on relevant committees is effective, inclusive, participatory, representative, transparent and accountable. The consultant will report to BOCONGO on the day to day performance of the scope of works and BOCONGO and UNDP for the final deliverables.
