CONSULTANCY: Project Document Editor – Nagoya Protocol Country: Jamaica Post Level: National/International Consultancy Type of Consultancy: Individual Consultancy Deadline: 14 December 2020 Expected start date: January 2021 Period of assignment/services: 20 working days over a four-month period Background: UNDP is developing the “Strengthening the Policy, legislative and institutional frameworks in Jamaica to effectively implement the Nagoya Protocol” project to support the Government of Jamaica with ratifying the Nagoya Protocol. The project is in direct response to the decision at the Second meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization (ICNP-2) held in Delhi, July 2012, where the Conference of the Parties “Reiterates its invitation to the Global Environment Facility to provide financial support to Parties to assist with the early ratification of the Nagoya Protocol and its implementation.” The project aims to improve the capacities of the relevant national authorities in Jamaica, in a participatory manner, as well as strengthen the policy and legal framework associated with access to genetic resources. The project will further seek to enhance traditional knowledge associated with genetic resources and benefit-sharing derived from their utilization for the implementation of the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization to the Convention on Biological Diversity. |
