Overview : The purpose of the e-learning course is to increase knowledge and awareness of human rights and the SDGs in Botswana, the role of key stakeholders (including the United Nations, Government, the private sector and civil society), the institutional arrangements and key issues. The intention is that by increasing knowledge and awareness and identifying synergies between human rights and the SDGs and implementation roles and responsibilities, achievement of human rights and SDG targets will increase, and institutional arrangements and processes may be strengthened. The training will be in the English language and specific to the local context in Botswana while locating Botswana in the broader regional and global contexts. Context The United Nations Country Team in Botswana and the Government of Botswana have recently agreed on the new United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, 2022-2026, which has both human rights and the SDGs at the core. Over 90 percent of SDG Agenda’s goals and targets correspond with human rights obligations and commitments outlined in the UN human rights normative treaty framework. Human rights and the SDGs are two sides of the same coin and making strides to support human rights recommendations will support SDG implementation. In order to roll out an integrated programmatic approach on human rights and the SDGs in Botswana, consistent with the Secretary General’s Call to Action on Human Rights and the SDG’s implementation, further capacity building is required, particularly at the technical levels. UNDP is implementing a joint project together with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and coordination support from the Resident Coordinator’s Office. The project is aimed at strengthening the implementation of human rights recommendations and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Project is guided by a Project Steering Committee consisting of representatives from the SDG Secretariat, Human Rights Unit, Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation, Botswana Council of Non-Government Organisations, UPR Working Group chaired by Ditshwanelo), the NGO Council, the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO), UNDP and OHCHR. One of the activities under this project is to develop an interactive and Botswana-specific Human Rights and SDG e-training. The training is intended to be self-paced and completely online (no face-to-face facilitation) and able to be completed in approximately 3 to 4 hours. |
