| Overview : Tanzania is making rapid progress in the development of Blue Economy (BE) framework in line with its national development frameworks and international development strategies, including the Tanzania Vision 2025, CCM election manifesto 2020-2025, Five Year Development III (Mainland), Zanzibar Vision 2050, Zanzibar Development Plan (MKUZA III) and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This development is particularly propelled by the government’s commitments and political support led by the presidents of both governments of Zanzibar and Tanzania mainland. In Zanzibar, the government has established the first-ever Ministry of Blue Economy and Fisheries to spearhead the BE agenda through interventions on two key priority areas, namely: 1) empowering local people to enable them achieve the true value of embracing the BE; and 2) accelerating structural transformation of Zanzibar’ economy through bankable and sustainable investments in the BE. These institutional arrangements set the stage for the development of the BE in Zanzibar leading to the formulation of the Zanzibar BE Policy (2022) and its strategic implementation plan. In collaboration with various stakeholders, Zanzibar has conducted several studies and high-level stakeholder dialogues to determine key needs, obstacles, and opportunities for maximizing BE benefits and potential for contributing to socio-economic development while ensuring effective governance of its natural resources.…………etc…………….etc…… |
