Pre-qualification for Dredging of the Approach Channel from the
Gulf to the port of Umm Qasr (Iraq)
UNDP-Iraq desires to contract a specialised firm to carry out the dredging of the approach channel from the Arabian Gulf to Umm Qasr Port. The approximately 12 million cubic meters dredging effort is part of the overall strategy to redevelop the access to Iraq’s seaports to its original shape. It is the major next step complementing the emergency dredging works undertaken shortly after the war by UNDP with funds provided by the Japanese Government. The reconstruction of the approach channel will re-establish Iraq’s access for deep draft vessels to the sea, allowing humanitarian and reconstruction goods to be brought into Iraq in a more economical way.
The UNDP now invites applications for pre-qualification from specialized companies (acting individually or as joint venture) to participate in the prequalification and any subsequent invitation to bid for the subject works.
The pre-qualification documents may be obtained upon written request by fax or e-mail, providing contact information, to the address below. Completed applications should be submitted, as specified in the pre-qualification documents by close of business on 3 August 2004 to the address below.
