Overview :

UNDP Belize in partnership with the Government of Belize, Ministry of Energy and the Belize City Council, with funding from the European Union (EU) has launched a project on the decarbonization of Belize’s Public transport sector through the introduction of electric vehicle technology.  The EU funded E-Mobility project, pilots the inclusion of electric buses as a means of satisfying growing public transportation demands for sector efficiency and modernization. The Project focuses on demonstrating conditions and early experience for e-mobility integration into the national public transportation system, informing sector growth and investment planning. This ‘Sustainable City’ initiative offers innovative, smart and technical solutions for urban challenges ensuring inclusiveness of action and improving accessibility of services to the city’s population.

In support of the emobility pilot, the project hopes to introduce “SMART” governance systems aimed to positively impact all residents of Belize City particularly vulnerable groups such as women and youth, PWDs and the elderly.

UNDP Belize is seeking a mobile application developer to develop the transport mobile application for Smart Cities Within the framework of Smart Mobility, the project supports the development of a mobile application with real time tracking of electric buses and other participating vehicles. This is meant to address the current irregularity of city buses and the difficulty experienced by passengers to gauge bus wait time. The app is also meant to monitor seat availability and whether transportation option is accessible to persons with disabilities. This app will be launched through a smart cities app platform, but the information will also be displayed on screens staged in strategic areas in Belize City, as an interactive map for those who are unable to access the app through their phones. The initial phase of the app will focus on catering the need of the people regarding the irregularity of the bus schedule.
