Call for Proposal for Promoting Renewable Energy Access through Productive Uses of Electricity in Zambia

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Zambia is supporting the Ministry of Energy, with the implementation of the project “Promoting Renewable Energy Access through Productive Uses of Electricity in Zambia” to explore the alignment between renewable energy mini-grids and the productive uses of electricity (PUE).PUE refers to the use of electricity for activities that enhance income and productivity of users, such as pumping water for irrigation, milling and grinding, refrigeration, dress making, and other economic activities, that would increase the ability to pay for the electricity supplied. Therefore, designing mini-grids to support PUE is an effective strategy to ensure the long-term viability of the projects and encourage user uptake of electricity from the renewable sources. 

UNDP now invites interested and eligible local organizations to submit proposals for the award of grants in a project entitled “Promoting Renewable Energy Access through Productive Uses of Electricity in Zambia.”  Grants will be awarded to organizations (including Civil Society Organizations and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises) that can demonstrate a business case for advancing PUE at the community level, either through the use or sale of PUE equipment or by building the capacity of communities to adopt PUE approaches.

ALL Proposals and supporting documents must be submitted to UNDP Zambia ONLY through email to gef.zm@undp.org copying procurement.zm@undp.org with the email subject  clearly indicated as “UNDP Support to Productive Uses of Electricity”.

The deadline for the submission of applications is on 18th September 2024, 11:59pm Zambian time. Any application submitted after the deadline will be automatically rejected.
